About Family Promise of the Northland

Family Promise of the Northland is one of 200+ independent affiliates of Family Promise, a national nonprofit organization that started 25 years ago and now works in 44 states across the country. We respond by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers. Local affiliates may provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. We provide advice and advocacy for at-risk individuals to assist them in building better futures. And we educate the larger community about poverty, its impact on the larger population, and the means to combat it as a society.
Our Core Program
The main focus of Family Promise of the Northland is providing dignity to unhoused and housing insecure people. We achieve this by utilizing our Day Center resources and volunteer capital. At our Day Center, guests can:
  • shower in private, individual restrooms
  • run loads of laundry in our laundry area
  • access WiFi or use our Internet Café for job search, resume building and other social service applications
  • visit with a volunteer about other ways the larger social service community can help meet their needs
At the heart of each affiliate is an Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN). The IHN marshals existing local resources to provide for homeless families as they work to get back on their feet. These resources include available congregational spaces, donated goods, and most importantly volunteers. Through all its affiliates nationwide, Family Promise mobilizes more than 180,000 volunteers from coast to coast in our commitment to building communities, strengthening lives.
Each affiliate is nonsectarian. They welcome all clients. Their volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and represent nearly every faith in the United States.

Since its founding, Family Promise has served over 700,000 people, including tens of thousands of homeless families who found assistance, connection, employment and even stable housing through our networking with other local programs.
